antiquus postremo

'antiquus postremo' is latin for "ancient future". ancient-future is a term used by the so-called "postmodern church" or emerging church to envision what the future of the church might look like if we returned to modeling the early church as described in the book of acts. anyway, ancient future for this blog just means that I'm writing about what's happening right now in my life, kind of like saying "yesterday's tomorrow".

I own a car now, for the first time in my life. It's a '78 Volkwagen Rabbit, and I've had it for about 3 months. It belonged to my half-brother, Jason, and I actually drove it often when I was staying with him and his parents in Medford, OR, five summers ago. We named him (do vehicles have genders?) Wally, after a fictional one-eyed character we co-wrote a short story about. Wally's running pretty well, though he had a couple problems I had to get fixed this summer. He has lots of little problems, which I think just give him lots of character. The most significant one is that the left headlight goes on and off for no apparent reason. Must be loose wiring or connection (I already replaced the headlights and that didn't make any difference). I should get it fixed...hmmm. Maybe after I have a job. In the meantime, I'm not driving Wally at night.

Wally? Interesting. What was the story that you two wrote about?

For some reason the name keeps reminding me of those "Can you find Waldo?" books.

I don't remember the story very well, just the character. Writing it was unique because Jason and I took turns choosing individual words, so we had to communicate a lot to make sure that our sentences were a unified whole. If I get ahold of the story (it might be in one of my writing notebooks) I'll post it so you can read it.

I like Where's Waldo?, but Wally can't hide very easily, what with his color and being old.
